What does Jara Foundation do?

Jara Foundation is a social institution established in 2006, and now operating nation-wide from Kathmandu, Nepal. It works for the promotion of education, identification of and support to poor but talented students, promotion of art, literature, culture and social scenario at large. It is constituted by social workers, philanthropists, writers, poets, critics, translators, journalists, painters, singers and musicians. Of the many objectives its has set for itself, one of the most important ones is to advance public habit in study, research, exploration and documentation through the use of different genres of literature, and to strengthen friendship among writers of various languages and nations, and enhance cooperation between writers and readers through recitations, lectures, interactions, publications and literary visits. Among its routine activities are literary discussions and seminar, identification and promotion of new talents in all fields of creative life, awarding writers and artists, organizing trips to neighboring countries, inviting writers and artists from the neighboring countries, publishing worthy works regularly, and thus, making a contribution to the literary and artistic enhancement of Nepal and its neighboring countries.

Education:         

  • It identifies talented students with difficult economic backgrounds and gives them financial assistance
  • It gives cash prizes to students annually for meritorious performances
  • It identifies and awards founders, teachers and educational institutions for their outstanding performances
  • It supports students in remote and underprivileged regions with educational materials including books, copies, dresses etc.
  • It assists schools to upgrade their infrastructure including building, classrooms and other resources

Social Services:  

  • During disasters, Jara Foundations volunteers to take up rescue and rehabilitation activities
  • It gives financial supports to needy people, including physically challenged, chronically sick and financially threatened
  • It organizes blood donation, cleanliness campaigns, skill-development trainings and workshops
  • It takes up any activity that contributes to the relief, rehabilitation, skill-development and philanthropy

Art, Literature and Music

  • Jara Foundation brings together artists, writers, and musicians.
  • Artists, especially painters, form an integral part of the organization. They occasionally organize art exhibitions in Nepal and abroad for peace, harmony and solidarity.
  • Writers, including poets, editors, critics and journalists constitute the biggest chunk of its stakeholders. Together, they publish, organize seminars and literary meets both in Nepal and abroad, travel across borders, convene and interact
  • Jara Foundations has established two annual awards for writers and artists, carrying cash prize of 25,000 rupees each and a citation
  • It organizes musical concerts to promote musical talents, or for a social cause
  • It amalgamates art, painting and music in the same event to suggest a fundamental affinity among these creative pursuits
  • It translates Nepal works into other languages and those from other languages into Nepali to ensure artistic give-and-take
  • It publishes individual and group works, newsletters, and journals
